Service development

Our dedicated services development department works directly with the National Health Service (NHS) to ensure that the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer are met. Much of this work is focused on developing Teenage Cancer Trust units and facilities; funding staff and services for patients and their families.

Development process

Developing units and facilities can take many years. There is a programme of events that need to take place to ensure that a unit is sustainable and meets the needs of the heath economy and its population.

Key stages

  • Seek network and commissioning support in line with Improving Outcomes Guidelines (IOG) implementation plans
  • Health planning with NHS Trust
  • Feasibility studies
  • Design
  • Construction
  • Commissioning
  • Ongoing unit development

Programme managers

Eight Programme managers have been appointed for a two-year period to work across NHS boundaries, incorporating expertise from the third sector in establishing services that meet the specific needs of young people.More about Programme Managers

Designing and building our units

We have a design blue print that has been developed over many years, ensuring that patient centred facilities are provided within the context of the clinical function of the environment.More about Designing and building our units
