Getting started
Important information before you organise an event
You will need to bear in mind, when you are fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust, that you are acting “in aid of” Teenage Cancer Trust, rather than “on behalf of” or “representing” Teenage Cancer Trust.
This means that you are independent of Teenage Cancer Trust, and what you do does not fall under Teenage Cancer Trust’s control.
Charity law
Charity law and the Charity Commission’s requirements mean that Teenage Cancer Trust cannot take responsibility for what you do as a volunteer when you are fundraising in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.
We are happy to provide information and guidance if you need it, and throughout these guidelines we have given you contact details of people who may be able to give you more information.
But there is a limit to how much support we can provide. In the end, what you do, and how you do it, is up to you – you are responsible for carrying out your fundraising well. Obviously if you set out to raise money for us, you must make sure the money you raise gets to us, and there may be some occasions when we will want to agree with you the way in which you use our name and logo.
But essentially, apart from those kinds of issues, these guidelines are just that – some rules of the road to help you on your way.
Registering your fundraising
We do ask that you register your fundraising event or activity with us. This helps us to keep track of who is doing what, so that we can link people up where appropriate, and ensure everyone is directing their energies towards what will work best.
Supporting a regional fundraising appeal
If you are involved in (or planning to set up) a group of people to fundraise for a particular Teenage Cancer Trust unit, you will find it really helpful to work with the Regional Fundraising Manager from Teenage Cancer Trust who has responsibility for that unit.
You can find the contact details for each Regional Fundraiser on the regional appeal pages.
If you are unsure which Regional Fundraiser covers your area please contact the main recepton desk on 0207 612 0370
Although you are still independent of Teenage Cancer Trust and responsible for the activities that you carry out, there are obviously advantages to establishing contact with us over the longer term, and we may be able to help you think through the issues that arise from your fundraising activities in more depth.
